Duet15 Horn1 and (no) Room Treatment

“Hello Steve and Ze’ev,

Just a quick note to let you both know the Horns are enjoying their new Home!
And most important, they have rec’d full WAF and endorsement! Lisa has much better ears than I have and her first reaction after hearing was “wow”. 🙂 Needless to say, an appreciable upgrade from my Forte IVs. Soundstage is deeper, wider and fuller. Vocals are more present and localized. I could go on and on but it wouldn’t be anything the two of you don’t know already.
I’ve gone back and forth between serial and parallel configuration. Plus my Auralic Aries streamer has upsampling filter options of “precise, dynamic. balanced and smooth”. All these permutations/combinations are both a blessing and a curse. I’ve sort of settled on parallel as my daytime ‘critical’ listening – when I want to discover details in an album I’ve never previously been able to hear. Then serial when I just want to settle into the music at night (often paired with a bit of bourbon).
… and the open baffle design is the cure to my room’s acoustic issues. I don’t think amateur audiophiles (especially those that don’t have dedicated listening rooms) like myself truly understand how they can be a simple and elegant solution to these problems. It probably took me three years to fully understand the negative impact of poor room acoustics. Then I spent a couple years and $3000+ (GIK portable panels) trying to solve the problem … with only a marginal improvement. If I knew then what I now know, I would have invested a few extra dollars into (PAP) open baffle speakers and saved myself a lot of pain and suffering in my audiophile journey. 🙂
Cheers,”, T.O., Customer, US
