Hello
I’d like to start by thanking Ze’ev for his patience.
I would also like to thank Cynthia who has always been reactive in keeping me informed about the dispatch of the speakers and efficient in communicating with the carriers.
I exchanged messages with Ze’ev for a year before I bought my Quintet15.
I have long existed because I live in Thailand on Phuket Island and I did not have the possibility to listen to them before the purchase.
Nor had I ever listened to a pair of Open Baffle speakers.
Of course, I read everything I could on the subject and watched all the videos.
Ze’ev obviously took the time to explain things to me without forcing me, and I had the pleasure of talking to a PAP Quintet 15 user and a journalist who also uses a pair of PAPs, so a big thank you to Marc in France and Matthew in the USA.
When I received my PAPs in February, I obviously had to go through the construction phase, it’s not complicated.
When I first listened to it, I can tell you that I was scared…
The sound was a bit thin, without real substance, the bass was not fully present and clear. I had to make an effort to guess the details I was used to hear on my previous speakers. On the second day of listening, I thought I heard an improvement, but not really significant.
I’m someone who didn’t really believe in breaking in speakers and hi-fi equipment. I’ve been lucky enough to have several pairs of new speakers and equally new equipment, which is why I’ve made this judgement.
On the third day I started to smile, there was a glimmer of magic coming out of the Quintet15s.
The bass was taking it’s place in my room, the soundstage was beginning to take on height and width, there was a real improvement.
So yes, there’s definitely a break-in on this pair of speakers, probably due to the 38cm size.
I told Ze’ve that I was beginning to be satisfied with my purchase, and he told me to wait until I’d had at least 150 hours of play and even more. Well… there was a real improvement towards 250 hours of listening, at which point I understood why so many people had spoken so highly of the PureAudioProject.
For the moment I can’t take advantage of a room size big enough to explode the Quintet15s, yet they do work.
The detail is well in place, the sound is organic and the bass is a beautiful, natural bass.
I can only advise you to buy a pair of PureAudioProject – it is a guaranteed pleasure that this brand will give you once you’ve had broken them in.
I’m therefore happy to have dared to make this purchase without being able to listen to them.
To sum up, I love my new speakers, they go much further than I could have hoped.
Thank you Ze’ev !
Yann
P.S (by PureAudioProject): Ten days before the above review was sent to us we received the following message. Yann was at around 150 hours into break in and we feel this message is worth sharing…
“Hello Ze’ve
Today I turned up the volume a bit more.
The bass is really striking.
It’s a dry, fast bass that takes up a lot of space in the room,
I have a Rel Acoustic subwoofer, the Rel 32 model.
I haven’t put it on yet.
It will be fitted later.
If you look closely at the photos, the cabinet is behind the left speaker.
I’m going to put it in a month’s time because it will take some time with the speakers, but it’s absolutely not necessary.”
